Billie K. Determann, 82, of Clarion, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Billie Kaye Determann was born April 5, 1943 in Manchester, Iowa. Billie was primarily raised in Early, Iowa by her parents Ernest Robert Stone (Junior)and Ruby Faye (DeGarmo)Stone (Rube)along with her brother Robert (Spike)who was 3 and 1/2 years younger. Growing up Billie enjoyed living in the small town of Early next to the many DeGarmo cousins who were also her best friends. Her dad put up a giant bag swing in the side yard where she and Robert could often be found playing with the neighborhood kids along with many games of basketball played on the court that her dad also made for them. All that basketball practice helped her become a basketball star in high school where she once scored 51 points in one game (6 on 6). She graduated from Crestland High School in Early in 1961. In high school is also where she met the love of her life, Darrell Determann. She and Darrell were united in marriage on June 1, 1963 at the First Presbyterian Church in Early, Iowa. Darrell graduated from Buena Vista college in Storm Lake, and Drake University with a masters degree in education. Darrell then went on to teach in Maxwell, Albert City and Zearing before settling in Clarion Iowa where he taught and eventually became principal for 30 years, retiring in 2003.
Billie worked as the Chief Fiscal Officer in the Iowa 2nd judicial district for many years before she also retired in 2003. They raised their children Guy Melvin Determann (Lisa) born September 6 , 1967 and Amy Jo Askvig (Joe) born October 11, 1970 mostly in Clarion where both Guy and Amy went to school with dad as teacher and principal.
Billie enjoyed cooking, sewing (learned from her mother with whom she was very close), canning vegetables grown in their (mostly Darrell’s) garden, golfing with Darrell and spending time with family.
Billie was a kind, giving soul who gave to many charities. One charity that was close to her heart was St. Jude’s Hospital. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that a donation be considered to St. Jude, or to a charity of your choosing.
Billie is survived by her husband Darrell, her children Guy and Amy, her brother Robert(Tonia) her grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ruby (1996) and Ernest Jr (1986).
