Obituary
Janet Smith Harrison, 75, of Kanawha, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026 at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center Street West in Britt.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Ewing Funeral Home in Britt.
Janet Elaine was born on November 7, 1950, in Mason City, to Eugene and Lois (Barnard) Furst. She spent her early years in Algona and Britt before moving with her family to Ohio, where she graduated from high school. Following graduation, Janet attended business college in Columbus, Ohio.
Janet returned to Iowa and married James Smith Jr. on September 19, 1970. To this marriage, they had three daughters Bobby Jo, Marty, and Jamie. Over the years, she held various positions, working at Hobo House, Winnebago, and Hawkeye Pride until her retirement.
She was an active 4-H leader of the Erin Eagers. Janet was an avid bowler, self-taught seamstress, and took part in Koda Friends NRA banquets. She also spent several years as a Pampered Chef consultant.
On September 17, 2016, Janet married Rick Harrison. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, and attending stock car races, creating many special memories.
Above all else, Janet loved her grandchildren. They were her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Janet is survived by her husband Rick Harrison; daughters Bobby Jo Andreasen, Marty McNeill, and Jamie Smith; 6 grandchildren Austin (Rachel) and Aiden Andreasen, James and Wyatt McNeill, and Jake and Katelyn Hejlik; sisters JoAnne (Dane) Pestel and Julie Wuertz; brother Scott (Trish) Furst; sisters-in-law Debra (Pat) Trulson, Cyndi (Ron) Ziegler, and Kristi Smith; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Smith Jr; parents; and parents-in-law Jim Sr. and Doris Smith; her brother-in-law, Tom Wuertz and her Uncle Darrell Barnard.
