Obituary


Robert S. Jacobsen passed away on February 24, 2026, at the age of 96.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Peace Reformed Church, on Highway 69 South of Garner, with Rev. Matthew Dawn officiating. Burial will be in the Peace Reformed Church Cemetery.

Robert Sigurd, son of Sigurd and Bertha (Olson) Jacobsen was born on the family farm near Dows, Iowa. Robert grew up on the farm, attended country school and graduated from Dows High School. He furthered his education at Iowa State University (then known as Iowa State College) in Ames, Iowa.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1953, he engaged in farming with his father.

On January 30, 1954, he was united in marriage to Abigail Hueneman at Peace Reformed Church (RCUS) in Garner, Iowa. They were blessed with two children: David and Victoria (Vikki). In 2026, they celebrated 72 years of marriage together.

They made their home on the grain and livestock farm where they lived and worked for 70 years. In recent years, they resided at Belle Haven Independent and Assisted Living in Belmond. Robert was a farmer at heart and remained committed to the work and responsibilities of the farm throughout his life. He specialized in cattle feeding as part of the family's livestock operation. He approached both his work and his relationships with dedication and integrity. He had a friendly demeanor and enjoyed visiting with others at church, in town and over coffee.

In addition to his farming operation, Robert was involved in serving his community. He served as President of Franklin County Soybean Association, Trustee on the Morgan Township Board of Trustees, Director on the Dows Farmers Cooperative Board, Deacon on the Peace Reformed Church Consistory, Club Leader of the Morgan Township 4-H, Director on the Franklin County 4-H Committee, member of the Franklin County Cattleman’s Association, Franklin County Farm Bureau, Dows Lion’s Club, and Dows American Legion.

Robert is survived by his wife of 72 years Abigail Jacobsen; son David Jacobsen (fiancé Kathy Arends); daughter Vikki (Scott) Ooms; grandchildren Kandice (Brock) Bonnicksen and their daughter Kelli, Jacki (Matt) Nail and their daughter Nora, Jonathan (Carly) Ooms and their children Rush, Skylar, and Jace, Rachel (Elliott) Van Stelle and their children Ava, Mason, Cora, and Nola, Justin Ooms, and Joel (Hannah) Ooms and their children Roan and baby on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents Sigurd and Bertha; and daughter-in-law Kristin Jacobsen.
